Bucaspor win on penalties!
BUCASPOR are Premier Cup Champions of Europe after beating FC Porto on penalties at the NRGi stadium in Aarhus this evening and win a place at the World Finals of the Manchester United Premier Cup (MUPC) in August
The teams were evenly matched and still deadlocked 0:0 after extra time. An exciting penalty shootout followed and FC Porto made their first slip of the tournament – a missed penalty allowing unerring Burcaspor the win – and the Championship title. Consolation prize for Porto was that as runners-up, they secured the second available spot in Manchester.
The competition which brought together the top twenty of the finest under-15 teams in Europe was hosted by AGF, Aarhus at their training facility and stadium and the final stage for the best of over 3,000 who had fought their way through local and national tournaments over the past twelve months for the Championship trophy and a place at the World Finals of the MUPC in August.
NIKE’s Regional Sports Marketing Director Tina Salminen congratulated the two finalists, wished them good luck in Manchester on behalf of all the teams and was joined in the Closing Ceremony by Nicolai Wammen, Mayor of Aarhus, to present the Tournament Awards. MVP as voted by coaches of the opposition was Martins from FC Porto; Top Scorer was Agieie from FC Bravo and from host team Aarhus AGF, Goalkeeper of the Tournament went to Hagelskjær.
Bucaspor’s Huseyin Eroglu was delighted at his team’s performance: “I am so very proud - we have played well and enjoyed a wonderful experience here. Winning the title and a place in Manchester makes it just perfect. I would like to congratulate the organisation – and all the teams for a quality tournament. Playing at a high international level like this helps the development of all our young players a great deal.
“If I could save and replay just one moment again – it would be this one - the second we realised we had actually become the Premier Cup Champions of Europe!”
