Tournament Day 2

LATIN American teams continued to set the pace at MUPC today - with Pachuca FC, Internacional and Colo Colo all finishing top of their respective groups at the close of Day Two of the Manchester United Premier Cup World Finals at Carrington. Host team Manchester United also secured pole position following a passionate encounter against yesterday's group leaders Sutherland Sharks.

In Group A - Pachuca FC and Newcastle United delivered consistently strong performances throughout the day - making the afternoon matches a matter of establishing first and second place only. Paris Saint-Germain started the day well in their bid to progress to the knockout stage against Pachuca but were finally unable to break down a solid Mexican defence. Coach Miguel Angel Gomez Leyva: "I am very pleased with the standard of play and the conditioning of my players. They have performed as well as we could have expected, I am especially happy that we managed to play well against PSG who I think are the best team we have had to face so far."

Ghana's Right to Dream Academy picked up the gauntlet for Africa and continued their winning form - finishing in second place behind Colo Colo. Coach Masoud Dramani is keen to keep his young players "mentally as well as physically fit" and, to that end, will be ensuring they get plenty of rest in between matches.

After holding FC Barcelona to a goalless draw yesterday in Group C a determined Sutherland Sharks side finally lost out to the host team, leaving FC Barcelona to take the second spot in the quarter finals ahead of Alta Loma Arsenal. The Australians finished in 4th position and MSS Kedah in 5th.

Brazilian MUPC Champions Internacional remained at the top of Group D with a perfect twelve points ahead of FC Porto, Kyoto Sanga, Orlando Pirates and Ulsan Hyundai.

FC Porto's Coach Luis Castro:  "In this tournament every team is strong and every team plays in a different way - so that is a good challenge and a learning experience for us. Playing against Brazil for example is quite fascinating as they have a special way of playing which is similar to the Porto team. All the teams from Asia are very fast. Experiencing these different styles of play is very good for all the clubs, for the kids and also for me!"

Quarter finals take place at 930am at Carrington tomorrow (Friday) with the semi finals at 1530pm and the final match on Saturday 7 August at 1230pm.

More than 9,000 under-15 football teams started out on the journey to find the 2010 MUPC Champions of the World twelve months ago - and now - only the final eight remain...
